Discover Saint Barths: Elegance, Exclusivity, and Untold Beauty

Visiting Saint Barths is a commitment, but it's this very challenge that makes it special. Unlike other Caribbean destinations, Saint Barths has a petite airstrip that can only accommodate STOL (Short Takeoff and Landing) planes with about 18 seats or fewer. This in a way helps retain the island’s unique charm, captivating travelers who value quality over convenience.

Navigating the Journey

The journey to Saint Barths often begins with a flight to its neighboring island, St. Martin. From there, you switch to a smaller prop plane. While the experience can be thrilling, those with a fear of flying should brace themselves. The airport's runway is a feat of engineering, surrounded by hills on three sides and requiring pilots to execute a steep descent. Despite these challenges, your efforts are immediately rewarded upon arrival by a hassle-free customs experience, thanks to the airport's small size.

Seasonal Appeal

High season runs from roughly December to February, yet the island has an almost year-round appeal with the exception of hurricane season. I recommend planning a trip of at least a week to fully immerse yourself in what Saint Barths has to offer.

Accommodation: Villa Marie (Gyp Sea, Saint-Barth)

During a recent trip with my mom, we stayed at Villa Marie, soon to be renamed Gyp Sea Hotel, an oasis I would enthusiastically recommend. Tucked away in a jungle-like setting, this boutique hotel offers unparalleled privacy while being conveniently located. Owned by a veteran hospitality family, who also operate some of France's most esteemed properties, Villa Marie epitomizes French elegance in a tropical setting.

Each room boasts a unique design, yet a standard of consistency is maintained. The small-scale property—just 22 rooms and villas—further enhances the exclusivity. From high-quality beddings to top-notch bath products, the attention to detail is remarkable.

More Than Just a Stay

Villa Marie / Gyp Sea Hotel has its own beach club, Gyp Sea Beach, a perfect blend of convenience and luxury. Guests benefit from priority reservations and top-notch service. The hotel’s pool offers a different kind of ambiance, embodying a tropical, secluded vibe that's perfect for days when you want to lay low.

Exploring the Island

Don't miss the opportunity to hike to some of the island’s most exquisite beaches. I particularly enjoyed Plage Anse du Gouverneur, known for its seclusion and stunning waters. It was a heartwarming full-circle experience to visit this beach again with my mom after nearly 20 years. Whether you’re looking for family bonding or romantic getaways, Saint Barths offers a myriad of opportunities.

Culinary Delights

During our stay, we dined at Bonito, an elevated hillside restaurant offering views of Gustavia. The atmosphere and cuisine were both exceptional.

Need More Choices?

Beyond Villa Marie, I personally inspected other renowned properties like Eden Roc, Le Tioney, Rosewood Le Guanahani, Hotel Christopher, and Le Barthelemy. Each has its own unique offering suited for different types of travelers.
