Captivated by Hawaii's Big Island:

My Unforgettable First Encounter

In late May, I seized the opportunity to visit The Big Island of Hawaii for Memorial Day Weekend. Despite its brevity—just four days—my friend Caroline and I cherished every moment.

Highlights included evenings with live music, cocktails, and dinners while marveling at the stunning sunsets. The live music created an enjoyable atmosphere, offering the perfect backdrop for reconnecting with Caroline after a long absence.

The following day was dedicated to poolside relaxation and soaking up the sun. Amid my work and reading, Caroline impressively devoured nearly two books—an undeniable testament to our state of relaxation.

A private guided bike ride the next day took us on a journey through the past as we learned about ancient Hawaiian petroglyphs. A visit to the local gem known as the queen's baths followed, though it's usually not promoted to tourists due to its significance as a local gathering place.

Our final day commenced with a sunrise Canoe Paddle, a profoundly enjoyable experience. We paddled out to gain a panoramic view of the island while our paddle leader shared insightful island history. An intriguing story unfolded: during whale migrations, some whales pause next to canoes, a practice believed to have continued across generations. The connection between native Hawaiians and these majestic creatures has endured over time. Although whale sightings eluded us due to the season, I remain hopeful for a future encounter.

To conclude the paddle, we shared our intentions—an incredibly spiritual moment that added depth to our journey.
